Daniel Kojo Schrade is an artist based in Amherst, MA where he is a professor of Art at Hampshire College since 2008. Originally from Germany, Daniel’s artistic practice includes painting, performance, works on paper and printmaking. In this presentation we feature his “SunScratch” series. It’s a body of work developed in collaboration with Wingate Studio, NH. More specifically it’s a set of three multi-colored intaglio prints, each created using three copper plates. The edition includes six sets of three prints, limited to a total of 18 prints. Each set is housed in a uniquely designed portfolio. This printmaking project examines questions of identity, belonging, and diaspora through an Afrofuturistic lens. Blending history, contemporary culture, and speculative fiction, the project seeks to address nothing less than the relationship between time and space.
Daniel has received M.A. Diploma from Academy of Fine Arts Munich/Germany. His work has been featured in many publications and exhibition catalogues. He exhibited throughout Europe, U.S. Mexico, and Africa. He is in the permanent collections of Museum im Ritterhaus Offenburg, Germany; Museo de Arte Contemporaneo Oaxaca, Mexico; Goethe Institut Accra, Ghana; and Collection Diehl Silvaplana, Switzerland, among others.
