CATHERINE HOWE: MONOPRINTS

SEPTEMBER 9 – NOVEMBER 19, 2017

Hudson, NY – August 19, 2017. Inky Editions presents  ”Catherine Howe: Monoprints”; an exhibition exploring the artist’s recent collagraphic monoprints,  and the objects that they have inspired.

While this body of work is process-based, it emerges from Howe’s expressionistic brushwork that balances both abstraction and representation. The works potentially resemble still life references such as Dutch flower painting, botanical illustrations and American post-war abstraction. These sources eventually, take a life of their own. Her transpositions are anything but static. They are infused with the artist’s skill, energy and sensuality.

Familiar motifs will leave a trail; some kind of evidence will remain. Along with them, new muses are in the process of being articulated and compare to the erotic language of nature.

A number of original works presented, have been produced at Inky Editions studio especially for this exhibition.

Catherine Howe has an extensive exhibition history for the past 30 years in U.S and Europe. Selected exhibitions include MOMA PS1, New York, White Columns, New York, Lesley Heller Workspace, New York, Von Lintel Gallery New York/Los Angeles, Littlejohn Contemporary, New York, Kim Light, Los Angeles and Bill Maynes, New York, among others. She was the Associate Director of White Columns until 1995. Her work was reviewed by New York Times, The Huffington Post, Art in America, Artforum, Flash Art, BOMB, and The Los Angeles Times.
