The possibilities of watercolor monotype range  from wonderful color, atmospheric washes, and signature brush work to bold graphic statements.  This flexible print medium is a favorite among those enjoying a painterly approach.

You will learn the process where watercolor has been allowed to dry, rewetted and lifted from plastic paper plates and running dampened paper through the press.  One can layer color, achieve rich surfaces and images and register one layer to the next with ease.  In this one-day workshop you will learn about all the necessary materials and begin to master and customize these techniques to suit your own art and printmaking needs.  Watercolor monotype will benefit both “plein-air” and abstract painters.

Materials to bring: Your own assortment of WC brushes, paper towel, 11x14” newsprint pad, source images or drawings. The rest of the materials are covered by the lab fee ($15) payable to the teacher at the end of the class.

Holly Hughes is currently a professor at Rhode Island School of Design. She is a painter, printmaker and ceramicist. Her work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and Germany, China, Finland, and France. She has had reviews in ARTnews, Art Forum, Art in America, N.Y. Times and other publications. Her works are in the collections of Citibank, The Dorsky Museum, Museum of the Rhode Island School of Design, Pepsico, ART OMI, and Pfizer Collection, among others.
